An organist with a broad interpretative horizon, ranging from the Renaissance to the present day, Livia Mazzanti is also an improviser, an art that was passed on to her by Giacinto Scelsi in Rome, then by Jean Guillou, with whom she perfected her skills at length in Paris.
Her recordings of works by Schönberg, Busoni, Hindemith, Scelsi, Guillou, and the world premiere rediscovery of the complete organ works by Rota and Castelnuovo-Tedesco, are considered milestones; she has recorded for Fonè, Rca Victor / BMG France, Philips Classic, Argos, Stradivarius, Aeolus, Continuo.
Her concerts have taken her all over Europe (guest of prestigious seasons such as the Bath Festival, the Festival Europalia in Brussels, the Festival d'Orgue de Saint-Eustache in Paris, the Sagra Musicale Umbra, the Organ Cycle of the Philharmonie in Berlin...), as well as to the United States, South America and the Middle East. Since 1995, she has directed the international MUSICOMETA festival in Rome, which she created, and collaborates with the Christuskirche.

Livia Mazzanti is a dedicatee of organ pieces by current composers and has interacted several times with the contemporary art world.
