Pre-order the CD album "Scarlatti alla Scarlatti" by Livia Mazzanti.
Internationally acclaimed organist Livia Mazzanti presents a new, extraordinary album that is an audacious journey into the heart of Domenico Scarlatti's music.
The artist breaks away from a purely philological approach to "transmute" some of the celebrated Sonatas originally conceived for the harpsichord, using the imposing and ductile timbre of the monumental Tamburini organ designed by Jean Guillou in the 1980s for the Naples Conservatory.
Analog Philosophy
The production chose to adopt an entirely analog process, with the capture and mixing of the sound carried out in real-time directly on location. The intent was to crystallize the authentic moment and to preserve the dynamic opulence of the organ with over 4,000 pipes, avoiding manipulations that would have compromised the integrity of the signal. This approach is a clear counter-trend to the "loudness war," aiming to restore the highest degree of realism and a richness that is peculiar to cultured music and its writing.
Formats for Enthusiasts
The recording is now available for pre-order and will be released in a series of prestigious formats, designed to satisfy the most refined listeners. The album will be distributed in an elegant digipak, accompanied by an exhaustive 24-page booklet that enriches the listening experience with in-depth information about the project.
The CD will be available for purchase at Milano Hi-Fidelity on October 11-12. For pure analog enthusiasts, the project will be offered in Bird Box's most prestigious format, the Supreme Master Tape.
Highly anticipated by the international public, a 180-gram vinyl edition will be available later, with a gatefold cover and a 16-page booklet, which is an authentic visual and sonic realization. Finally, an exclusive offer for digital purists: the DRC24K Gold (Direct Reel Copy) format, a CD mastered on-demand directly from the ½-inch tape master, using a state-of-the-art conversion unit, guaranteeing a digital transposition of unparalleled fidelity.
Bird Box Records goes far beyond simple publication. With this project, the record label wants to encourage physical releases, and the album becomes a clear testament to tangibility and ownership, in stark contrast to the digital transition. The album will be made available on streaming platforms only at a later time, to emphasize the value of the physical object and the listening experience in its most complete form.
Bird Box Records Announces 'MY Space 24': Alessandro Bianchini's New Album,
An Anthem to Emotional Sound Matter.
ROME, June 21, 2025 – Bird Box Records is proud to announce the release of "MY Space 24", the highly anticipated second album from the talented Alessandro Bianchini, available starting June 21, 2025.
This new work is not just an artistic expression, but a true
manifesto in favor of tangibility and ownership in the era of dematerialization.
"My Space 24" stems from Alessandro Bianchini's deep desire to compose more accessible and melodic tracks, while still maintaining sophisticated harmonic complexity.
"Unlike '10/5,' my first solo album, I aimed to embrace the tradition of American jazz standards, favoring immediate melodic lines and regular forms, but exploring non-obvious harmonic solutions to avoid banality," states Bianchini.
Bird Box Records and Alessandro Bianchini wish to strongly reassert the invaluable worth of physical ownership against the inexorable advance of dematerialization. The rise of subscriptions and streaming services, while convenient, is eroding our sense of possession: we no longer truly own the films, books, or the music we love. "My Space 24" is an act of love and respect for art and for ourselves, an invitation to rediscover the joy of owning a piece of sonic history.
This launch unequivocally celebrates vinyl as the emblem of tangibility, with a special emphasis on the strictly limited, numbered edition of 300 copies of "My Space 24" on 180-gram AAA Pure Analog vinyl. But the commitment to unparalleled sound doesn't end there. Bird Box Records is thrilled to announce that the album will also soon be available on the prestigious Supreme Master Tape, the label's new flagship tape format, promising an auditory experience of unprecedented fidelity. Only at a later stage will the album be distributed across all major streaming platforms, with particular attention given to Qobuz and Tidal, where it will be accessible in high resolution at 192kHz/24bit, ensuring the utmost digital fidelity for discerning listeners.
Lorenzo Vella of Bird Box Records comments: "This album represents a monumental evolutionary step for Bianchini, indisputably sealing his tenacious ascent along the arduous and hidden path of sonic excellence with undeniable maturity. 'My Space 24' marks a milestone in Bird Box Records' prestigious publications.
Our primary intent is to restore to the listener the maximum degree of realism in reference to the intrinsic sound of each instrument captured at the moment of recording.
We do not seek artificial embellishments! Every instrument should be reproduced on a well-calibrated hi-fi system, immune to those manipulations that inevitably deteriorate the precious integrity of the original signal. I sincerely hope that the colossal effort, unwavering determination, and total commitment poured into this recording by everyone involved will reach lovers of good music, materializing into a living and authentic sonic experience.

Diego Librando from Sound Contest tells us about Francesco Mascio's latest work - Romantique Duniya.
In the landscape of world music, “Romantique Duniya,” the latest album by Francesco Mascio released by Birdbox Records, stands out as a work of rare emotional intensity and sonic richness. The guitarist and composer presents ten original tracks, characterized by a musical language that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, enriched by the presence of eighteen talented guests from various parts of the world, including Ireland, Iran, Libya, and Gambia.
The album, starting with the semantic and graphic interplay in the title (which alludes to ancient migrations), is conceived as a sonic journey that blends tradition and innovation, thanks to the meeting of instruments and timbres from different parts of the globe.
The rhythm section, featuring five percussionists and a drummer, plays a key role in the album's overall structure, emphasizing the deep connection with ethnic sounds. Examples of this are "Tre Trifogli" and "Tarhindu," tracks that highlight the importance of percussion as an element of identity.
Mascio once again demonstrates his ability to naturally fuse hypnotic rhythms and evocative melodies, creating an atmosphere that envelops the listener.
Umberto Fiorentino / Claudio Quartarone – “II” – Birdbox lp Following "Anamorfosi," the two guitarists return with another top-notch creation. Eight tracks showcasing a continuous flow of ideas, an absolutely extraordinary empathy, and an ability to consistently hold the listener's attention. There's no doubt that these two are among the best guitarists that European jazz can boast.

To Giants
The new album by the pianist and trio leader features tributes dedicated to various jazz pianist-composers, as well as pioneers of the diverse styles that have characterized the genre's evolution. It is a celebration of the jazz piano genre, which embraces a wide range of styles and possibilities that only a versatile instrument like the piano can offer.
Diversity
Diletta Longhi makes her official debut with an album balancing jazz and world music. It evokes African, European, and American sounds in some of their forms and evolutions, ranging from reggae to jazz, soul to hip-hop, and pop to rock. In 'Diversity,' the songs address love, but not solely; they include reflections on what the future holds, on the human condition, and on the relationship with Nature. An album with concepts worth reflecting on!

Carefully produced by Lorenzo Vella, the label's director, in collaboration with Nightingale Studios, the recording room of Bird Box Records, "10/5" is a work that captivates the listener from the very first notes, leading them on an emotional and surprising musical journey.
Originally released on CD on June 23, 2023, "10/5" garnered attention from critics and the public for its refined fusion of genres and styles.
"10/5" is the result of deep and passionate musical research, reflecting the artistic journey of Alessandro Bianchini. The album naturally ranges from the academicism of classical music to jazz improvisation, creating a unique and captivating blend. The sounds of traditional jazz merge with elements of contemporary music, giving life to an original and unmistakable sound.
"The timbral choice of the drumsticks that change depending on the track, the instrumentation (the vibraphone, the marimba), and the almost obsessive attention to dynamics are the elements that, in my opinion, give the record a jazzy sound, with significant and recognizably refined elements," states Bianchini. "Another aspect that is certainly evident to those who listen to the record is the presence of an element that I personally always place at the forefront and which is the basis of improvisation and interplay: Timing. Timing that has allowed me to create a very natural and almost instinctive feeling with the other members of the group: Marco Micheli on double bass and Simone Brilli on drums."
Of the seven tracks that make up the album, five are original compositions by Alessandro Bianchini, while the other two are jazz standards rearranged for the trio formation: vibraphone/marimba, double bass, and drums. The presence of special guest Beatrice Sberna on vocals in two tracks adds a touch of further refinement to the work.
"10/5" is an album that stands out for its elegance, originality, and its ability to move the listener. A work that confirms the talent of Alessandro Bianchini and the quality of Bird Box Records' productions.

JGT contributor Joe Barth covers the international jazz guitar scene in this interview with Italy’s Umberto Fiorentino.
Umberto Fiorentino was born in Rome in 1956 and has lived his entire life in this area. His approach to the guitar is the “less is more” perspective championed by the great Jim Hall. His love for music cultivated each year as he completely self-instructed himself in musical technique and expression. Though jazz is his central passion, he has disciplined and developed himself equally in classical, pop, and rock styles.

The album doesn't unfold as an episodic collection, but rather as a true and proper sequence. Each sonic passage functions as a station on a journey, and only in the continuity between the individual sections is the overall meaning of the work composed.

With "My Space 24," Alessandro Bianchini positions himself on a musical trajectory that eludes any aesthetic automatism. Unlike his debut "10/5," which found its primary field of investigation in experimental language, this second work is defined through a strategy of subtraction. The vibraphonist doesn't abandon complexity; instead, he conceals it within a more immediate style of writing, based on an idea of accessibility that gives nothing away to the obvious.

Diversity
‘Diletta Longhi's ‘Diversity’ is a debut album that many improvised pseudo-artists who have recently infested the scene (also thanks to the Sanremo bandwagon and overconfidence in autotune) would not even dream of on their most lysergic journeys.
A niche record? For a few aesthetes? Not really, and even if so, who cares in the end? Real art is unfortunately not their bread and butter.
A straight and amalgamated record, with a truly sensual musical carpet, from a warm and full-bodied voice, ideal for making love while it's raining outside, almost like Diana Krall's ‘The Look of Love’. Continue reading...
